Sew Sew Proud of Myself

My name is Carey.  And I have a confession.  Up until this week I could not sew.  At all.  I mean not even a button.  (Disclaimer:  My lack of sewing ability or know how is in no way related to my mother's abilities and/or willingness to teach me as a teenager.  There.  I said it.  Cuz I knew SHE would if I didn't set the record straight.) So back to the subject at hand.

My BFF and DIY Partner In Crime, Danielle, gave me my first lesson last week.  My first project was curtains for my bedroom which is under renovation.

And here's the finished product...
Kendall helped me hang them.  She handed me my tools and tested the hammer out on the bed just to make sure it worked.  It did.

I know my wall is two toned.  It's not finished yet.  Enter my DIY Partner In Crime, Danielle.  We have special plans for this wall (and a wall in her house) just as soon as we can get a kid-free weekend and our hands on some power tools.  Last year we our husbands made headboards for our bedrooms. This year, it's just us. We can do this without the hubbies!

I'll bring you an update when there's progress.  But for now, I'm in love with my new curtains.  Onto bedding and the bathroom next!

First Cup a' Joe

Ok, question.  Is almost three years old too young to get hooked on coffee??

Kendall had her first cup this weekend.  But, seriously, it was about  five parts milk to one part coffee.  In other words, more like coffee flavored milk. If she's anything like her parents, though, she'll be hooked on the stuff in no time.

Kendall and Daddy enjoyed an afternoon cup at her table.

And, yes, she might be nekked, but she has her jewelry on!

More Summer Fun

This week our play date outing was the Children's Museum.  It was Mommy's first visit, Kendall's second.

She ventured out with a little bit of climbing.

And she liked the train set.

She REALLY liked the real car, too.  She drove Mommy and JuJu all over, mostly to Kroger and Monster Church (of which Elmo is a member says Daddy).

I think she thought she was on the real set of Between The Lions.

And Kendall and Caleb had boat races.

Caleb took them seriously.

But, by far, the farmer's market was her favorite.  She loaded probably fifty-seven baskets of choice fresh fruits and vegetables and "checked them out" on the scanner inside the market.  My OCD child did make sure she put each item back in its proper bin before starting a new order, and then took it upon herself to clean up after the other disorganized kids.

Kendall's not quite old enough to play Scrabble, yet.  But she had fun spelling her name!  {Note from Kendall:  the third letter is not an upside down U.  It's a little n.} Pretty impressive!

We're looking forward to repeat visits in the future!

Kendall Conversations vol. 7

When my sister, Julie, was little she ended her prayers with, "Thank you for the cheerful givers. Amen."

Kendall ends all her prayers with, "And praise the Lord for Jesus.  Amen."

Tonight she ended her prayer with: And praise the Lord for all my soul and all my might.  And praise the Lord for Jesus.  He loves me sooooo much. Amen.

------------------------------------------------------------------

The other day Kendall and her Gigi built a tent with sheets and chairs.  (I used to LOVE that as a kid!)

Kendall:  Gigi, you sit right here.  I be right back.

Returning holding a picture Bible, Kendall:  I read you story, ok?  You listen.  You waaaaant.... Adam and Eve?...oooor....Cinderella?

Gigi:  Adam and Eve

Kendall:  Ok, once upon a tiiiiiiime, there Adam and Eve.

-------------------------------------------------------------

My sister came up today for a visit.  Unfortunately en route a rock knicked her windshield so after lunch we headed over to the glass repair shop.  In trying to explain all this in two-year-old language,

Mommy:  JuJu's glass on her car is broken so we are going to the car shop to get it fixed?

Kendall:  It broken?! Why?

Mommy:  A rock hit her glass and it has a bo-bo on it so we are going to get it fixed.

Kendall:  It need a bandaid!

More Summer Sun and Fun

I promise we've been having lots of fun with our friends on Thursdays.  Well, except for last week when we couldn't make it.  And the week before I didn't take pictures!

This week we went to a kiddie splash park about thirty minutes down the road.  Neither Kendall nor I had ever been there.  It was really neat.  The park is situated by a lake so there was the option of the slides and pool or the sand and lake.  Mommy doesn't swim (except for wading to my knees in the Gulf at the beach) in lakes where I know unseen creatures are lurking.  I'm much more suited for concrete bottoms and chlorine.

This water park had a pool, and in this picture you can see the slides area.  The other slide, which is longer and curvy is on the other side and is hidden in this picture.  But here's the news flash:  Kendall went down BOTH slides - well, in Mommy's lap.  But for those of you who know her, that's quite an accomplishment!  I was so proud of her.

And I had to include this picture because Chloe, the eleven-year-old who hung the moon in the sky (aka is great with Kendall and gives her attention) , is in the background.  Kendall asked me about five thousand times if "Coee be there?"

On the way out Kendall decided she DID want her picture taken with the Yogi Bear after all - until we got close and despite Caleb's attempts to prove Yogi was not real.  But Caleb and Collin were all about it. Ok, so maybe we didn't master all her fears in one afternoon, but it was still a great time.  And let me just add that I love these two sweet little boys to pieces!
