Last week was no different. Kendall was watching - for the dozenth time probably - our church's Christmas program that we had recorded. There's one song where "Grown up Jesus" as we refer to Him in our house, is performing various healings that were recorded in the Gospels. Kendall can recognize some of the ones being acted out from Bible stories she's heard. At one point there comes a group of lepers that seem physically pretty bad off. Their clothes were torn and tattered, some could barely walk, and all were cast off by society. Immediately the crowd disperses when they approach Jesus, some barely crawling to get to the Savior. Jesus begins touching and healing them. I guess to the mind of a six-year-old it seems a mighty big task.
Halfway to herself, and halfway to me she speaks out, "Whew! How much healing did THAT take??"
It was all I could do not to bust a gut in the moment. But of course I also didn't want to miss an opportunity so I replied, "It's a good thing God is more powerful than anything, even dying. He always is enough."
In fact, I found such humor and childlike innocence in the comment that I texted it to a few friends whom I knew would appreciate it. Later that night as I'm laying in bed
Wow. Slapped around again ever so gently by a God who sees, who knows, and who provides. And I'm reminded yet again why Jesus refers to having a child-like faith to enter the kingdom of Heaven. My job isn't to figure it out, because that's a futile cause after all. My job is to trust, obey, and KNOW that my God's grace is sufficient. He's enough. No matter what.
