Kendall: Hey Mom (from across the den on the sofa). Close your eyes so you don't see me jump on the couch.

Pointing to her goosebumps, Kendall: Look, Mom. I have sparkles.

Kendall (giving a weak sounding lion roar): Mommy, that's a lion with allergies.

Dat's a ....
GIRL!!
At least now we can call her She Dat until she gets a name.
And we were SHOCKED!! I would have bet the house that Kendall was a girl. But this time I kept flip-flopping on my "feeling". I stuck by girl this last week but Gabe said he didn't trust me (fingers crossed I was right). I didn't blame him. I guess I really thought a boy since eeeeveree-body told me so. So to Everybody, WRONG!! We are thrilled beyond thrilled to have another sweet girl join the family. Welcome to the sorority house, Daddy.
We wanted to tell Kendall about she baby sister in a special way. Immediately following our appointment I swung through Wal-Mart and bought a pink baby's first doll. I wrapped it up, and when Gabe got home that night we let her open it. She was thrilled! She's saving the doll to give to her baby sister when she is born.
And I had another cool idea for telling the family. But since my mom shot it down in about 0.2 seconds (it involved her waiting five days till she got here to cut the reveal cake. Does she not remember I kept the pregnancy a secret for six weeks?? What's a measly five days?), I decided to use my cute idea at work.
I baked a cake and used food coloring to dye the mix pink. I slathered enough white icing to cover to pinkness then drowned it in pink and blue sprinkles.
Mrs. Rita, the boss lady and fellow Louisiana girl, got the honors of cutting the first piece for all the other teachers and co-workers who were anxiously, and some not so patiently, waiting. I must interject that due to the big announcement, all the teachers were not only present, not only on time, but early setting up their rooms. Hmmm....maybe I should keep the babies coming??? not.
Disclaimer: I never have nor claim to be a cake decorating connoisseur.
Everyone was thrilled and elated. Kendall didn't know what to make of all the hollering and cackling a bunch of excited women can make. But she quickly realized how fun it was to tell her news that Mommy had reminded her to keep a secret until the big reveal. As each of her classmates arrived she greeted them with the news she was having a baby sister. So sweet!
Now for a name...

Princess Ballerina
Last weekend Kendall got to be a princess ballerina for the afternoon. A local Christian ballet company held a first annual Ballet Princess Party for little girls as a fundraiser for their summer tour. I knew Kendall would love it since she's all into dancing and twirling skirts these days. We went to Target and bought an outfit for the occasion. She chose blue, like Cinderella.
Neither of us knew quite what to expect when we got there. The invitation said to join them as they remind daughters that they are princesses in the kingdom of God. The afternoon would include dancing with "real" princess ballerinas, arts and crafts, princess makeovers and games.
There were lots of little girls there. Kendall was a little hesitant to leave me and join in the free dancing before the event started. But once they were divided into groups she warmed up slowly. (By the end I was peeling her away to go home.)
First all the three year olds got to dance. They had free dance for a while, which they all seemed to love. Then the leader ballerinas taught them first position and the Hokey Pokey.
This was Kendall's first experience to ballet and dancing. She loved every second. This same ballet company offers a summer camp (which we will be attending) and lessons during the school year. Kendall has been begging ever since to go back. I'll wait until closer to time to tell her she will :) Now till June can be an eternity for a princess.
And to top it all off, the owner of the ballet company is married to none other than:
Yes, Keith Thibodeaux who played Little Ricky on I Love Lucy! And here he is now...
I've actually met him and got his autograph at past ballet performances. That makes me two degrees of separation from Lucy!

It's the Little Things
Thoughts of the day:
1. I just bought the best pair of maternity lounge pants everrrrr from Target today. Worth every one of the seventeen bucks Ismacked down swiped for them. I will be living in them every day. Until about May when the southern heat really sets in and this big fat mama will want as little clothing/skin contact as possible.
2. Teacher-minded + OCD = fascination with a new box of colored pencils. Had to sneak 'em past Miss Hawk Eyes. I heard a great idea for color coding Proverbs and can't wait to get started. This works well into my scripture memory goals for this year.
3. Despite the torrential downpour all morning I had to get out and run a few errands. Getting in and out of the car in a monsoon with a three-year-old attempting to navigate car seat straps just makes the whole process that much longer and that much more clothes-soaking. But I loved watching Kendall splash in every puddle between the car and Target and Walmart and the mexican restaurant in her matching rain boots, raincoat and umbrella. She was thrilled that due to her protective footwear, this coveted feat was permissible today.
Comfy pants...sharp, new pencils...jumping in rain puddles...and chili rellenos. Happy Friday!
