Mama's Sew Crazy

I did it!  I did it! And I'm so proud.  I made my first pair of pants for Kendall thanks to by bff.  I was so excited after my lesson at Danielle's house that I made another pair the next day.  And I only have like eight more to make with all the fabric I have!  I'm gonna attempt a skirt this week.

Seriously, SEW Excited!

I'm still over the moon about learning how to sew.  I've still only attempted straight lines, but soon and very soon I'm tackling the world of cute girly clothes!

I have a new lap top for work that I need to bring home with me frequently so I needed a stylish, light computer case.  I've been using the hubby's monstrous black cave of a computer bag that's cumbersome and heavy as lead and it's just not cutting it.  So after searching the web for tutorials I found one simple enough to try.

Here's the finished computer case...

And it matched my school bag perfectly.  Love me some coordination!

I've finished Kendall's curtains, but I'll wait for the reveal when I get the whole room done.  I know, nail biter.

Sew On a Roll Now

I''m lovin' this sewing stuff.  Yes, I've only attempted straight lines so far, but soon I will tackle the world of cute little girl clothes.  Well, as soon as I finish the other 500 things on my to do list.  (Is it sad that I'm looking forward to school again so things can slow down??  Think I missed the joy of a lazy summer this year.)

I made new curtains and a shower curtain for my bathroom last weekend.  I had the house to MYSELF for twenty-four hours and I stayed up most of them sewing away.

Here's the result...

I wanted fabrics to coordinate with my gray stripes that I painted soon after we moved in and removed the dreadful wallpaper.  And I was so excited with what I found.  It's just what I had in mind.

Now, please don't click on the above picture.  It'll just magnify my flaws.  That solid gray material was a monster to keep straight.  Trust me, you get too close and it can be all jacked up in a few spots.  Button holes were another issue.  I had to self teach myself with the manual to figure it out.  They're a little frayed, but you have to get all up on it to notice.  And, really, who's gonna inspect them with a magnifying glass??
I even had enough fabric left over to recover the lamp.  Cha-ching!  That was a free DIY! Or, as we call it in Louisiana, a little lagniappe. (For all my fellow non-Louisianians, that's pronounced LAN-yap.)

So, what's next??  Probably curtains for Kendall's room.  More on those changes later.

Sew Sew Proud of Myself

My name is Carey.  And I have a confession.  Up until this week I could not sew.  At all.  I mean not even a button.  (Disclaimer:  My lack of sewing ability or know how is in no way related to my mother's abilities and/or willingness to teach me as a teenager.  There.  I said it.  Cuz I knew SHE would if I didn't set the record straight.) So back to the subject at hand.

My BFF and DIY Partner In Crime, Danielle, gave me my first lesson last week.  My first project was curtains for my bedroom which is under renovation.

And here's the finished product...
Kendall helped me hang them.  She handed me my tools and tested the hammer out on the bed just to make sure it worked.  It did.

I know my wall is two toned.  It's not finished yet.  Enter my DIY Partner In Crime, Danielle.  We have special plans for this wall (and a wall in her house) just as soon as we can get a kid-free weekend and our hands on some power tools.  Last year we our husbands made headboards for our bedrooms. This year, it's just us. We can do this without the hubbies!

I'll bring you an update when there's progress.  But for now, I'm in love with my new curtains.  Onto bedding and the bathroom next!
