Thanksgiving 2012

Over the past few years Thanksgiving has turned into our busy travel holiday.  Way too many people to see and things to do.  Way too little time in which to do it.  Oh well.  We slam as much in as possible.

After heading down to my beloved New Olreans on Wednesday, we headed over to Baton Rouge to see my grandmother.

Here's our family picture of the season...

IF I had had the patience to wait to do Christmas cards, this one would have been the winner.  But for the first time ever it'll be just the girls but I saved alot of $$ by being an early bird.

And here's the sweetest picture of the girls.  I'm kinda glad it didn't come out perfect (in one Brielle was smiling directly at the camera...so was Kendall...but with her eyes closed) because then I would have been really upset of settling on my Christmas card picture this year.

I'm gonna dress them in matching outfits as long as I can get away with it!

CANNOT believe my sweet girl is FOUR!

Grammy, or Myrt as all her children and grands affectionately call her by her name, got to meet her newest great-granddaughter.  She was so excited to see a sweet baby.

We got another four generation picture. We have one from when Kendall was a baby.  AND we have one of me as a baby with MY great grandmother, Myrt's mom, Mamaw.

And here's the whole fam.

The next day we took Kendall back to the NO Children's Museum.  Just like me as a kid, the grocery store is her favorite. Though she didn't seem amused by JuJu's photography.

This was Brielle's view of it all.

Kendall was a little more hospitable at the restaurant.  She proved to be an excellent waitress for Mommy and JuJu.

One more Thanksgiving.  One more enjoyable time with our family.

Thanksgiving Program

Kendall's school Thanksgiving program was so much fun. (Just as much for Mommy as Kendall I do believe.) It's not often I get to be just "mommy" and show up to preschool events. Usually I'm "director and mommy" and I'm in charge of making sure everything goes as planned. So this day I could relinquish all duties and responsibilities and just relax and enjoy. And I must say, though I love my job, it was nice for a change.

Here's Kendall dressed as an indian.

Afterwards Daddy went back to work and the girls enjoyed the beautiful weather at the park. Brielle was there but she didn't make it into any pics.

Kendall brought this home from school.  So sweet...

Happy 4 Months, Brielle!

Sweet Briellie Bop is four months today!

At four months Brielle's favorite things are:
  • Watching Kendall get a bath.
  • Talking (babbling!) alot and loudly. {One meaning of Brielle is "messenger".  I kept telling Gabe she would be the family messenger.}
  • Getting her own bath.
  • Chewing her fingers.
  • Watching herself in the mirror.
She's attempting hard to roll over.  Too bad the first time she did was today during nap while she was supposed to be swaddled. Soooo much for naptime today! She seems to be very social and goes to anyone easily and usually accompanies it with a huge smile.  But Kendall is her all-time favorite person.  She watches her constantly and loves Kendall's kisses, hugs and snuggles.

She's starting to get the hang of reaching and grabbing.  Mommy's fingers and her plush doll are her favorite toys.

Happy 4 months, Brielle!

Project Failure...Or Not

This week my goal was twofold.  a) to get an adorable, gorgeous Christmas card picture of my girls. One that would make you swoon and declare them the two sweetest girls in their smocked Christmas outfits that would secure me the title of cutest Christmas card of the season. And b) knock one more thing off my holiday season to-do list at break neck speed.  I am determined to get everything done before December 1st.  Everything.  Gift guying, decorating, cards.  Everything.  That way I'll be freed up to focus on the real meaning of Christmas and find some good activities and projects for Kendall and me to work on together to honor the birth of our Savior and to give back to others.

screeeeetch!

We had TWO separate photo sessions on two separate days.  And by the end of the first one, there's two fussy girls, one frustrated, ill mommy, and a partridge in a pear tree. We all three did a little better the second go 'round after Mommy asked her elder for forgiveness for getting frustrated (a very humbling experience) and used a little bribery the second for the retakes.  Hey, whatever it takes.  I have the prize of Christmas Card Photographer Mommy on the horizon after all.

Well, the glistening shimmer of the trophy prize is headed off into the horizon.  Here's the "best" I captured:

 And my personal favorite...

Like I said, session two went a little better.  Here's the winner this year:

It's for sure not the best.  But it'll do.  Especially since I got 60% off my early bird order.  And more importantly, a big fat check on my holiday to do list.  But the best part...I don't care.  These girls are precious to me so therefore so it this picture!!  And it's a better reflection of real life!  Who am I trying to wow?  I love these girls to pieces.  I love this picture.  And I'm more than satisfied.

And here are a few more precious pics.  Though they may not be Christmas card contenders, I love them just the same.  They're little snapshots of my girls, not a prim, proper and posed, but instead just doing what they do and loving on each other.  Priceless...

So maybe it wasn't Project Failure after all :)

More Than Just Content

I know Thanksgiving is right around the corner and we all, myself included, get all wrapped up in thankfulness.  This reminder is a good thing as it seems we, definitely myself included, can so easily lose focus and forget all our blessings.

Even though it happens to be mid-November God has been really teaching me about true contentment.  And by contentment I'm not merely referring to just learning to submissively yet unenthusiastically accept what little we have to settle with while choosing to not focus on the have-nots glaring us down.  I'm referring to coming to a new realization that sometimes "blessings" as we in our temporal minds tend to see things, are not really blessings at all. Often they can be hindrances.  Hindrances from truly experiencing God's grace, mercy and love.  Hindrances to living the life God created us to each live.

I get myself so wrapped up in my own four walls that I often fail to keep my priorities straight; my emotions in check; my neighbor in need on the foreground; my Jesus as Lord. Instead I turn a blind eye and with all my muster plow through another day's to-do list with little thought to how God wants to use me. Oh, I throw up some prayers and of course pray blessings and safety over my family. (I would be in ill-fit wife and mother if I didn't.)  But my heart's intent is to just feel the satisfaction of scratching it off my list. I find myself worrying more about details that really don't matter to a hill of beans by the end of the day.  I find myself with an edgy tone to my voice.  I find myself unsatisfied.  I find myself plain slap worn out and emotionally, mentally and even physically drained. Why?  All because I'm pouring a majority of my focus, energy and attention on things that just stinkin' don't matter. Or of they do matter, I'm trying to be a doer and a pleaser by attempting to accomplish too much.   It's not that these things are wrong or evil or should be banned forever.  The travesty is when these details get out of whack, re-prioritized, and just plain bent out of shape.  Then as I slither into bed at night and collapse I wonder what's up.

So here's my list of blessings that might not seem as such:

I'm thankful for my ever-shrinking house.  There are several good things to be considered.  It means I now have TWO daughters.  Neither of them lacks for clothes.  They both have a bed to sleep in at night.  And they are blessed with toys and possessions.  It also means that I can de-clutter and get rid of stuff.  I'm finding as I'm now thirty-ish that more stuff just ties me down and creates extra work and upkeep.  And when I do get a new house one day (with pa-lenty of storage) I will be even more grateful for it.

I'm thankful that I can't get anything accomplished on Tuesdays or Thursdays.  And it's because I'm at a job that I love, ministering to children and their parents and teachers.  It forces me to get outside my own little world twice a week and love on others.  And God is teaching me that sometimes those that seem unlovable need love the most.

I'm thankful that I own very little "nice" stuff.  And by nice I mean expensive, immaculate, gorgeous furniture.  It would just be covered in layers of filth just like my kitchen chairs, couch and rug.  I don't have to worry about anything getting ruined. One less thing to worry about.  And for the record, I do work my tail off to keep everything clean and decluttered.  But when the red jello jiggles off the spoon...again...I can throw up an unaffected "oh well" instead of depleting my body of oxygen.

I'm thankful there is always a mess to clean up.  It means I have two healthy little girls (and a normal husband) which leaves much job security as mamma and wife.

I'm thankful my husband and I don't have all night to cuddle together on the couch watching tv (though the thought sounds very inviting!).  We're both busy cleaning a house and cleaning the kids.  Gabe is a wonderful daddy, playing with and caring for his girls when he gets home from work. Besides, other than Saints games, what is worth watching on tv anyway?? (No wise cracks needed on the Saints, please.  True Who Dats know how to celebrate the little victories ~i.e. keeping an opponent under 300 total yards ~ as well as the big victories ~ like SUPERBOWLS!) Plus he helps me with dishes and laundry too. (yes, be jealous!)

I'm thankful I can't go on a week long vaca with the hubs.  I would miss my babies too much.

I'm thankful that Sunday is often NOT a day of rest.  God has given me the opportunity and responsibility to teach four-year-olds ("the least of these") His truth as well as serve Him in other aspects each morning as well.  He's blessed us with amazing, godly friends who we can live life with and raise our children with.

I'm thankful I can't sit down over coffee each morning with "my person".  It makes those phone conversations as we share our hearts and solve the world's problems just that much sweeter.

Just making this list spurs me on to so much more I am thankful for.  I don't merely throw up a generic, thankful heart to some ambiguous force out there somewhere.  I thank my Lord, my Savior, Jesus, for loving me unconditionally, blessing me beyond measure, forgiving me beyond fathom.  There's nothing I did to earn it. There's no way I deserve it.   There's nothing I can do to repay it.  And that's what's so amazing about grace.

May I not grow weary in running the race.  May I not become discontent and miss God's blessings.  May I not grow complacent that I miss what God has in store for me now, in this season of my life. He has me here, now, for a reason.  May I grow into more of His image.  May I find my purpose and live it.

Little Milestones

Brielle is growing even faster it seems than Kendall.  I'm reliving things she's doing now that Kendall did.  Brielle is not quite rolling over yet, but she's reaching the tipping point and sure is trying.  Just needs a little more uumph.  Here's a picture taken last night for my mom...

...because this is a similar picture of Kendall and me that is one of her absolute favorites and is framed on her mantel.

I think when I'm old and grey I'll have to check their eye color to remember which one is which.

The other major milestone from today was Brielle's first taste of cereal.  She wasn't quite sure what to think.  Only one bite acutally went down instead of right back out. She likes her food, but not like her sister did!!

Here's Kendall's picture from her first time to eat.  We called her the Cereal Killer.

Little Princesses

For Halloween this year Kendall and Brielle were Cinderella. After getting all dolled up we headed over to a trunk-or-treat at a nearby church.  And they both had a royally good time.  Kendall for the first year was not scared of costumes and Brielle enjoyed her favorite past time as well:  watching everybody else.

Before loading up in the carriage driven by Prince Daddy, we snapped a few pictures.
