Friends, Sun and Summer Fun 1

Kendall took her first trip to the zoo today. I kept telling her this morning that we were going to the zoo to see a lot of animals and each time she responded with her tiger "roar!" (Tigers are a favorite in our house, by the way, especially purple and gold ones.)

My friend, Danielle, and I decided to plan an outing each Thursday this summer. We sat down with the calendar and then spread the word to our friends to join us. This morning was our first "Friends, Sun and Summer Fun" outing.

At first Kendall was super excited to see the animals. She fell in love with the giraffes. She was quick to point them out to me as the daddy, mommy and baby. (There were two adults in varying height and a baby, thus her conclusion on the matter.) But after a too-close-for-Kendall call with the tiger who brushed up against the plexi glass window she was leaned up against and peering through, she decided to keep a much safer distance from them all despite cages and/or fences and waterways.

Here she is at her bravest watching the ostrich and zebra with her buddy, Caleb, in the background.

We saw tigers...

...giraffes...

... orangutans (Kendall recognized even him from her animal encyclopedia that we read ALL.THE.TIME)...

...bears...

...elephants...

...and even a friendly flamingo that let us know in length and volume how excited he was for our visit. But notice by this point that Kendall is no longer interested in the animals along with our friends.

She's much more interested in tending to Baby Collin in the stroller. She recognized how much help Mrs. Danielle needed in keeping up with him and pushing him and she was happy to oblige for most of the remainder of our visit.

She's such a sweet little mama already.

After a picnic lunch we all rode the train. Here's a group picture of most of our friends who joined us. All aboard!

I would say that the trip was a huge success, and that we should probably invest in a family zoo pass.
