Pumpkin Carving

Today was Kendall's first annual pumpkin carving. And it was no contest. Just as our Daddy's snowman back in February, our pumpkin face suffered the same ill fate of being a little puny. Honestly, it wasn't because of our impaired pumpkin carving skills, but more due to Kendall's indifference, Sophie's devouring of pumpkin discards and Daddy's aversion to pumpkin guts.

But we started out with high hopes.  Here's Daddy hard at work carving out Mommy's sketch.

And here's Kendall's brief interest in the process.

And here's Kendall sniffing the pumpkin's nose.  Sophie had just run out of sight with the mouth.  It was quickly devoured and she came running back for more.

Ok, fast forward to the end.  Here's Kendall showing off our pumpkin. She identified the triangles of the eyes and the circle of the nose.

Kendall proudly showed off the result.  As I warned, it was hastily done due to toddler, poodle and sweltering October heat.

But Kendall didn't seem to know the difference!  It was her special "walrus pumpkin".  The walrus is currently Kendall's favorite animal due mostly to her animal encyclopedia (which we read routinely) and partly due to who-knows. She gets a kick out of his two big teeth (tusks??).  Daddy gave the pumpkin two walrus teeth just for her. And that qualified for a big, fat gold star according to her standards.  If the two year old is impressed, then mission accomplished.  Mommy's holding out hope that her roasted pumpkin seeds will bring a happy ending to her as well.
